Maybe you're wondering
Who we are
Founded in October 2007 in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, Women's Alliance is the first lesbian and feminist NGO for promotion and protection of the human rights of the LGBT community and cultural development of the society based on the principles of equality, diversity, tolerance and non-discrimination.
Bearing in mind that the right to different sexual orientation is one of the basic human rights, Women's Alliance advocates for elimination of all forms of violence against non-heterosexual people and discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. We constantly strive towards social inclusion of LGBT people and equal rights by pleading for legal changes and improvement of the domestic legislation.
Some of our goals are: to provide support and empowerment of LGBT people seeking for acceptance of their sexual orientation and gender identity; to work on accomplishing visibility of the LGBT community in the country and sensibilization of the society; to reduce and eliminate homophobic and transphobic hate speech and hate crimes; to promote and protect the LGBT human rights; to advocate for advancement of domestic legislation according to EU recommendations for equal treatment and protection of LGBT people; etc.

With ignorance comes fear, from fear comes bigotry. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to undertake affirmative actions in the education of the audience as the key to acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people.
In order to eliminate all forms of violence against non-heterosexual people and sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression motivated discrimination, it is vital to fight the hate speech widespread in the society as a result of the current stereotypes and prejudices. We think that the best possible way to build a positive public perception of the people living out of the traditional society model based on heterosexuality, heteronormativity and gender binarism, and to influence on the process of social inclusion of the marginalized groups, is through promotion and assertion of human rights and the rule of law.
So, let's join our forces because together we can do more!
